EMI Music Greece wins big at ARION awards


EMI Music Greece was the big winner at Greece’s 5th annual ARION music awards, which were presented in Athens last week, walking away with 12 awards, the most for one company since the awards began five years ago.  
 
Yannis Ploutarchos was this year’s most celebrated artist walking away with  3 awards including those of Album Of The Year 2005 (across categories) for the twice platinum certified ‘Ola Se Sena Ta Vrika’. Yannis Ploutarchos also won the awards of Best Laiko Album Of The Year 2005 and Best Male Solo Performance (Laiko). The Laiko format is the best selling format in Greece.

Local pop star Sakis Rouvas won two awards at the ceremony, those for Best Male Solo Performance (Pop) and Best Pop Album of The Year 2005  for his platinum certified ‘S’eho Eroteftei’. Sakis Rouvas was present to perform his new single, a Greek language version of Damien Rice’s hit ‘The Blower’s Daughter’. 
 
EMI Music Greece artists won 3 of the 4 awards in the Alternative Music category :

Filipos Pliatsikas, won the awards for Best Alternative Album of the Year and Best Male Solo Performance (Alternative). 

Raining Pleasure, Greece’s best selling English language group, won the award for Best Group Performance (Alternative) for their re-recording of Manos Hadjidakis’ and the New York Rock N Roll Ensemble’s ‘Reflections’ which broke Gold.

Evridiki, won the award of the Best Alternative Song.

This year’s award for Best Selling album was presented to Haris Alexiou. Her ‘Anthologio’ (Best of) compilation is approaching 3 x platinum status.

The awards served as a perfect showcase for the talents of these artists which are respected throughout Greece today, showing that EMI Music Greece is the home of the country’s best music!
